Some bands are formed. Sudden Moves was detonated — five strangers who wandered into the same Portland, Maine basement on the same doomed Tuesday and walked out a band, ears ringing, destiny rearranged. Scientists remain baffled. The neighbors have filed paperwork.
Up front, Lara sings like she's got a personal grievance with the ceiling and intends to win. Behind her, Chris plays drums the way other people slam doors — with feeling, and slightly too hard. Trevor holds the low end together on bass through what doctors describe as “sheer stubbornness,” while guitarists Kyle and Pat trade riffs like two raccoons fighting over the same very good sandwich. It should not work. It absolutely works.
The result is indie punk that's equal parts sugar rush and minor property damage — loud, hooky, a little unhinged, and completely sincere. Their debut EP, “Mistakes Are Ok,” arrives September 25th. You've been warned. You're welcome.
